HIS Radeon R9 390X IceQX² OC Specifications
HIS currently offers one R9 390X model, which is slightly different from the R9 290X model we tested almost a year ago.
The HIS R9 390X IceQ X2 OC comes with a similar cooling solution to Radeon R9 200 series. The paint is more metallic and it reflects more light than old version of IceQ X2 cooler. In our sample there are no stickers on the fans, but retail version ships with HIS logo.
The PCB has been changed to support 8GB memory. The R9 390X board number is C679 (vs C671 from R9 290X).
Unfortunately the color of the PCB has not been changed. The dark mint does not necessarily fit nicely to gold shroud, but it’s a matter of taste I guess. At least we have a backplate, which in my humble opinion is very nice.
Compared to R9 290X iPower model we tested, the R9 390X has different power connectors. This model is equipped with 6+8pin connectors, which turned out to be more than enough for this card, in fact it overclocks much better than 290X based on custom PCB with two 8pin power connectors.
This model is clocked at 1070 MHz, which is 20 MHz above reference specs. The memory clock was kept untouched at 1500 MHz.
Like we said earlier the R9 390X features full Grenada graphics processor with 2816 Stream Cores, 176 Texture Units and 64 Raster Units. This card comes with 8GB GDDR5 memory which is a default configuration for R9 390X. Let’s not forget this card is competing against GTX 980, which is only offered in 4GB configuration… at higher price.
Not only the size of frame buffer, but also memory bus width is higher on R9 390X compared to GTX 980. With 512-bit interface the bandwidth is 384 GB/s. It is quite amazing how high can this value be increased with just a small change to memory clock speeds, but more about it in overclocking section.
HIS Radeon R9 390X comes with four display outputs: DVI-I, DVI-D, HDMI and DisplayPort. No adapters were included with the card.
