TUXEDO Computers provides full Linux support for Intel‘s reference laptop at no cost.
Augsburg (Germany), 26th of November 2020.
Linux users have been waiting for a long time to get full Linux compatibility for Intel‘s popular reference gaming laptop, the QC7 – better known as XMG FUSION 15 in Europe or Eluktronics Mag-15 in the US: after countless hours of development work, adjustments and optimizations, TUXEDO proudly announces the long awaited full Linux support completely free of charge.
TUXEDO responds to numerous requests for Linux support
Even more than one year after release, the Intel QC7 gaming laptop‘s specs are still pretty impressive to read: mobile high-end performance thanks to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q and Intel‘s Core i7-9750H in a thin and elegant magnesium chassis, combined with a Thunderbolt 3 port, a huge 93 Wh battery and an ergonomic, opto-mechanical keyboard.
TUXEDO now adds a new and crucial highlight to the list: the Linux-based supplier provides all Linux drivers and software packages free of charge, which ensure full Linux compatibility for all Ubuntu-based distributions on Intel‘s successful collaboration laptop.
The specially adapted driver packages ensure full keyboard support including hotkeys, several different fan profiles and seamless graphics switching between the Intel iGPU and the dedicated NVIDIA GPU, while self-developed software solutions, like the TUXEDO Control Center, enable the selection or creation of different performance profiles according to the user‘s preferences and use cases.
The large number of requests from the community for Linux support convinced TUXEDO Computers to invest many hours in development work to make the Intel QC7 gaming laptop as Linux compatible as possible. Using complex and time-consuming reverse engineering the TUXEDO developers revealed the QC7‘s various specific hardware functions and successfully re-programmed them for a flawless operation with the Linux kernel.
Linux driver support for EVERY customer of the Intel reference laptop
These driver and software packages apply exclusively to all models based on the Intel QC7 reference laptop, including the XMG FUSION 15, Eluktronics Mag-15, Aftershock / LEVEL 51 Vapor 15 Pro or the MAINGEAR ELEMENT.
But there is more to it than that: this offer applies retroactively to all customers who have already purchased the Intel QC7 laptop from a local OEM of their choice. The driver packages, including easy to follow instructions, can be found here.
For more sophisticated users, who want to go ‘all in‘ using Linux, TUXEDO Computers also now offers the »XMG FUSION 15 – powered by TUXEDO« freely configurable in its online shop. (online available from 11/27/2020 – 10:00 AM CET / 01:00 AM PDT)
While the chassis design stays the same, except for TUXEDO‘s obligatory TUX super key, the »XMG FUSION 15 – powered by TUXEDO« features not only its own pre-installed and fully ready to use TUXEDO_OS, but also enhanced Linux-related support as well as access to TUXEDO‘s web-based fully automated system setup called TUXEDO WebFAI and the myTUXEDO cloud services, which meet the highest German data protection standards.
TUXEDO_OS is TUXEDO Computers‘ in-house distribution, based on Ubuntu. Besides featuring visual adjustments of the user interface, TUXEDO_OS also provides various system optimizations for improved usability and in particular to meet the highest data protection standards with the removal of any tracking activities. Thanks to pre-configured input devices and hotkeys, in addition to the pre-installation of popular, most commonly used Linux applications, TUXEDO_OS ensures quick and easy access to the Linux world.
Fusion completed! Full Linux support for XMG FUSION 15 and other models based on the Intel QC7 gaming laptop.
