The RTX 4090 is not a GPU for everyone. This flagship Ada desktop model requires high wattage power supply and some extra space in the chassis. But what happens when someone still wins such a card in an official giveaway? This is precisely what happened to one of the 18 RTX 4090 NFS edition cards that were part of the special January giveaway.

It is well within the owner’s right to do whatever he or she pleases with the card that they rightfully own. One of the owners chose to sell it and use that money for other things. Since RTX 4090 is the most expensive model right now and Founders Edition it not always in stock, these cards can still easily be found for well over 2000 USD on many auction sites.

In January NVIDIA announced a special giveaway featuring GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition with a custom backplate. The backplate is not permanently attached to the card, in fact, it arrived separately. Both the card and the backplate can now be found on one of the Canadian marketplaces with a price of $3100 CAD for the GPU and $100 CAD for the backplate.

Seeing such a rare card on a second-hand market is not something many of the 55K giveaway participants would like to see. But on the other hand, this is a chance for someone else to at least buy the NFS Unbound backplate for their RTX 4090 card, something they would otherwise never have a chance to own.

Many gamers who simply can’t afford to upgrade the PC just to run RTX 4090 would probably do the same. This card is at least sold at directly converted price from the value listed on invoice, so there is no scalping in place, although the item was free.
