Valve launches Steam Deck with OLED screen
The most popular handheld for PC gamers is getting an upgrade.
Steam has revealed the Deck OLED, featuring a larger 7.4-inch OLED display with HDR support. The device incorporates a new 6nm AMD APU codenamed “Sephiroth”, maintaining the same specifications as its predecessor. The platform is also using faster LPDDR5 memory of 6400 MT/s speed.
The OLED variant introduces several enhancements, such as an upgraded Wi-Fi 6E wireless interface supporting 2.4/5.0/6.0 GHz networks and IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax standards. Additionally, it boasts a larger 50 Whr battery, but at the same time 30g weight reduction (5%) and lower heat generation.
The screen resolution stands at 1280×800, with a peak brightness of 1000 units for HDR and 600 nits for SDR content. Furthermore, the 90Hz panel offers a 110% P3 color gamut coverage. According to Valve, the screen alone will contribute to lower power consumption at around half the watt.

The updated OLED version boasts an enhanced heatsink, featuring a thicker design, and introduces a revised fan configuration. Reports indicate that this system operates with reduced noise levels and generates less heat in comparison to its predecessors.

The freshly unveiled OLED version will offer a 1TB storage option, signaling the apparent replacement of the 512GB version at the same $649 price point. Meanwhile, the 512GB OLED version is to cost $549 while the current 512GB LCD model is getting a price reduction to $449. The 256GB LCD model will now cost $399 while the 64GB entry-level design is dropping to $349.
Valve has assured users that the Deck OLED remains compatible with the accessories designed for the original “LCD” version. Additionally, a Limited Edition variant with a unique translucent design is set to be available as well. The OLED version is now scheduled to launch on November 16.
