Specs of Intel Xeon Sapphire Rapids-WS (Workstation XCC) CPUs leak out: Xeon W9 up to 56 cores and 350W TDP

Next-gen workstation processors from Intel

Yesterday we covered a leak featuring the first Xeon W9 part based on the upcoming Sapphire Rapids architecture, today we have a full list of processors from these series.

Make no mistake, this is not Xeon Scalable for data-centers. Xeon Workstation is more or less a HEDT successor or a candidate for AMD Threadripper PRO competitor. These will use a new platform and provide a major upgrade over Ice Lake-X/Cascade-Lake-X SKUs.

These CPUs are listed with DDR5-4800 memory and designed for 1S (one socket). The 112L/1S Xeon XCC series will require a new platform/motherboard which is listed in the document that we received as “Maverick” W790 Sapphire Rapids 112L, Alder Lake-S PCH.

In total, we counted three engineering samples (ES2/D0) offering up to 56 cores. But we also have a list of final SKUs, so it would seem. There are Xeon W9 for 300 to 350W TDP, Xeon W7 (270 to 300W) and Xeon W5 series (220 to 270W). The clock speeds go as high as 3.2 GHz, but most parts will operate at 2.X GHz frequencies.

The document does not any information on PCIe lanes or how many memory channels do such processors support. However, rumors point towards 8-channel support and up to 112 PCIe Gen5 lanes.

The source has no information on when will these products become available, but given that the SKUs are finalized, this shouldn’t be that far away. Hopefully the SPR-WS is not delayed as much as SPR-SP.
