XMG has announced its latest desktop replacement.
XMG Ultra 17 – The first 10-core Intel laptop
This is the first known gaming laptop to feature desktop INTEL Comet Lake-S processor (this is not Comet Lake-H or U). In fact, this is the first 10-core Intel-based laptop.
The XMG 17U is not a 15-inch laptop like APEX featuring desktop Ryzen 3000. It’s a 17-inch model, which is bigger in terms of size, weight, and also in terms of power delivery. The XMG 17U has a dual power supply (2x 280W) and a 97 Wh battery.
XMG’s latest desktop replacement laptop is fully configurable in terms of graphics and compute. The starting configuration is Core i7-10700K and RTX 2070 SUPER. For the time being, it is not possible to change the specs, but the specs sheet lists all available options.
It supports 125W CPUs, meaning unlocked “K” Comet Lake-S processors are compatible. The previous model only supported up to 95W TDP models.
The display can be changed to the UHD IPS panel (this option is not available for APEX). Graphics options go up tp RTX 2080 SUPER, which is the full-fat 200W TDP model. This option is also not available to the Ryzen-based model.
XMG will start taking preorders on May 20th with shipping expected by end of June. The Ryzen-based APEX 15 is already available for preorder and it ships in 7 to do 10 days, although 3950X option is labeled as ‘coming soon’.
Which option would you choose?
