NVIDIA might not launch GeForce RTX 2080 Ti SUPER after all

According to the news posted by Anthony Garreffa from TweakTown, NVIDIA is not planning to launch GeForce RTX 2080 Ti SUPER, or are they?

NVIDIA RTX 2080 TI SUPER not now, maybe never

Let’s go back to first RTX SUPER rumors that hit the web before the series was even confirmed. At that time it was believed that NVIDIA will refresh the whole lineup of RTX cards, by adding extra cores or more memory capacity.

The rumors about RTX 2080 Ti SUPER are a month old. You might have seen stories posted at Wccftech, where such SKU was mentioned. The story had some inaccuracies, such as RTX 2080 SUPER featuring TU102 GPU, or that RTX 2060 SUPER will use 2070 unlocked GPU, but all things considered, it was quite accurate. That story also mentioned RTX 2070 TI SUPER, which in my opinion no longer makes sense, considering there are is a few percent difference between RTX 2070 SUPER and RTX 2080 non-SUPER (~5-7%). Unless NVIDIA blocks factory-overclocking for custom cards once again…

The latest on “The TI SUPER” comes from TweakTown. Anthony shared that he asked Jeff Fisher from NVIDIA’s PC business directly during the press briefing if there will be RTX 2080 TI SUPER, to which Fisher replied that there ‘would not be’. We do not know if Fisher was just avoiding a question or he actually said the truth. After all, why would he tell the press that there is a faster SKU coming if they didn’t even start testing the SUPER trio that was announced?

There are only two reasons for NVIDIA to launch RTX 2080 TI SUPER: AMD launches something faster or RTX TITAN goes EOL. We don’t know if RTX 2080 TI SUPER would feature fully unlocked TU102 GPU, but no matter if the SKU would be 4408 or 4608 core GPU, it would still affect the sales of TITAN. The performance gap would be too narrow.

The chart below is just an illustration of where the card would land in the lineup.
