NVIDIA RTX 4080 rumored in two variants

Hardware leaker MEGAsizeGPU claims that NVIDIA is preparing two RTX 4080 models for simultaneous launch.

There are some new developments concerning NVIDIA’s upcoming high-end GPU called RTX 4080. Those who expected a simple product stack for RTX 40 series may be left disappointed. New rumors suggest the company is preparing two cards with the same name, but featuring different memory configurations.

What is now said is that NVIDIA supposedly plans to introduce both the 16GB and 12GB RTX 4080 cards alongside each other, just as the company did with GTX 1060 6GB and 3GB graphics cards a few years ago. It wouldn’t be totally unbelievable, considering NVIDIA did such launches in the past, and even the predecessor RTX 3080 has two configurations, not to mention the third which was never released.

Furthermore, another leaker @kopite7kimi claims that this supposed RTX 4080 12GB model may already have its board and SKU numbers. And this is where things get interesting. Unless AD104 and AD103 are pin compatible, there is a chance that the alleged RTX 4080 12GB model could feature AD104 GPU, not AD103. For now, there were only leaks on RTX 4090 (AD102) and RTX 4080 1GB (AD103) sharing the same PG139 board, but nothing on AD103/AD104 on PG141.

The closer we get to RTX 40 launch, the more likely we are to hear similar stories. NVIDIA tends to release different specs to board partners, often conflicting with each other. But we have seen numerous instances where such weird SKUs somehow ended up in a market, which is why it is important to not just blindly ignore all of them.

Kindly note that we have not been able to confirm the existence of the 12 GB model thus far. So, this information may not be accurate, or the leaker has access to early information that we do have yet.
