NVIDIA planning new RTX 4070 (SUPER) models

NVIDIA might incorporate the AD103 GPU into the series.

As per information from MEGAsizeGPU, the upcoming RTX 4070 SUPER variant is rumored to be equipped with the AD103 GPU and boast 16GB of 256-bit memory. This might be a substantial upgrade in specifications for the RTX 4070 series, even though there’s already a sizeable performance gap between the 4070 Ti and the base 4070 models. The transition to the AD103 GPU is indeed necessary to enable a wider memory bus, as the existing RTX 4070 models are constrained by the 192-bit bus on the AD104 GPU. This upgrade appears to be primarily focused on enhancing the memory capabilities of the card rather than simply increasing the core count.

Additionally, there are reports that NVIDIA is preparing an RTX 4070 with GDDR6 memory, which would represent a downgrade in terms of memory bandwidth compared to the GDDR6X-equipped models. This could potentially be an interesting card, especially if it lands in the price range of the RTX 4060 Ti with 16GB ($500), as the current pricing for the 4070 might not be very appealing at $550.

Previously, MEGAsizeGPU stated that there would be a forthcoming update to the RTX 4080, either in the form of a Ti or SUPER variant, with upgraded specifications featuring the AD102 GPU. It’s expected that this updated card will maintain the original RTX 4080’s price, suggesting the possibility of a price reduction for the base model in the near future.

This is a third time hardware leakers are claiming that NVIDIA is in the process of preparing a refresh for the RTX 40 series. These cards all share a common theme of either enhanced memory or GPU specifications. With NVIDIA offering an extensive range of ADA GPUs, they have flexibility to incorporate additional cores into each SKU or different memory configurations. Even the RTX 4090 doesn’t fully utilize the full potential of the AD102, but there have been no substantial rumors on an upgraded flagship for now.
