NVIDIA RTX 40 Mobile to feature RTX 4090 GPU

Finally, an update on NVIDIA RTX 40 mobile GPUs.

NVIDIA may be further departing from its promise to keep similar performance level for laptops and desktop GPUs. The new mobile series are said to feature four different processors and five SKU names that do not match desktop series in any way.

While probably no one should’ve expected a power-hungry AD102 GPU in a laptop, enthusiast will still have to pay closer attention to mobile naming again. According to the newly posted ‘GN21 Marketing Name’ slide, NVIDIA will be launching as many as five different RTX 40 mobile SKUs.

NVIDIA would be launching its first RTX X90 class mobile GPU this time, but unlike the desktop part, it would be based on AD103 GPU instead of AD102. This is probably the most interesting part of this leak.

NVIDIA RTX 40 Mobile series codenamed “GN21” should not be a surprise to our readers. Leakers have been sharing data on these mobile GPUs since June this year. In fact, one of the most respected NVIDIA hardware leakers, already revealed which GPU goes into which mobile SKU.

Earlier, the same leaker also confirmed max TGP (Total Graphics Power) ranges for three of the models, which would reportedly not consume more than 175 Watts. What is also worth noting when it comes to this leak is lack of RTX 4080 non-Ti SKU. However, such part could appear at any moment.

AMD Radeon RX 7000 series

And since we are talking about mobile chips. AMD may surprise their fans as well. A cryptic tweet from AMD hardware leaker @greymon55, indicates that Radeon RX 7000 mobile GPU could be as powerful as desktop RX 6950XT. This likely means that Navi 32 (the top RDNA3 GPU expected to debut for laptops), would be a very powerful mobile gaming chip.

Unfortunately, here, we do not have any leaked specs or codenames. But one could expect it might launch as Radeon RX 7900M or 7800M.

What we do know is that both NVIDIA and AMD are set to launch new GPU series around CES 2023. This launch could be combined with the introduction of Zen4 mobile and Raptor Lake mobile CPU series.
