Hardware leaker @g01d3nm4ng0 posted some new screenshots from MSI’s AMD 600-series presentation and manual, demonstrating the new design for toolless M.2 installation. This patent pending design is called EZ M.2 clips combined with Screwless M.2 Shield Frozr.
The M.2 installation is very simple, it basically uses a latch instead of a screw. The installation of the M.2 shield (the large SSD heatsink) is a bit trickier though, which has been shown during MSI Insider Livestream a month ago (video below).
The method of M.2 SSD installation combined with the MSI Shield will be available to MSI’s MEG and MPG series, such as X670E MEG Godlike, X670E MEG Ace and MPG X670E Carbon Wi-Fi. Other motherboards will only feature EZ M.2 clips so without dedicated heatsink, the only exception being Mini-ITX B650 series. The majority of AMD 600-motherboards from MSI will require no tools when replacing the SSD. However, some M.2 slots are hidden under a motherboard heatsink, which sadly is still using screws.
