MSI GAMING Z TRIO and GAMING PLUS TRIO

MSI is introducing new versions of its GAMING TRIO lineup.

The changes to the series are not major though. We are looking at a slightly updated design and in most cases higher clock speeds.

There is a bit to unwrap here, so we thought it might be a good idea to give you a simple chart with an overview of the current state of the GAMING TRIO lineup, including the just-released GAMING Z and GAMING PLUS models. This naming is not really straightforward to users and some GAMING PLUS models are faster than ‘GAMING X’, while others keep lower clocks.

In short, the GAMING Z cards are obviously the highest clocked Radeon models (with the RX 6800 SKU being the exception). Also, for some reason, the RX 6900XT PLUS model is actually faster than GAMING X. However, one should note that there are no changes to the memory speed or power requirements (all GAMING TRIO models have default AMD TBP).

Therefore, MSI 6900 XT GAMING Z will be the fastest MSI RDNA2 GPU thus far with a boost clock going up to 2425 MHz, which is 60 MHz higher than GAMING X. Similarly, 6800XT GAMING Z is 25 MHz faster than GAMING X.

When it comes to physical changes to the design, the PLUS/Z series have new backplates. It should be noted however that this new backplate design was already used by MSI for 6900 XT GAMING X.
