MSI quietly showcases its GS76 Stealth gaming laptop

MSI did not upgrade its GS75 design for the 10th Gen Core Comet Lake-H series earlier this year. Only the 15-inch version called GS66 Stealth was refreshed with a modern black design. With the upcoming launch of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 Mobile series, the company will launch a new version of the 17-inch laptop, the GS76 Stealth.

MSI has not provided the specifications of the notebook, but we can immediately notice similarities to the predecessor and GS66 Stealth version. The GS76 appears to feature Dynaudio speakers located in the same position as the GS66. The device also features a numerical keyboard and wider touch (appears to be the same size as GS66’s).

The GS75 was indeed lighter than most 17-inch ultra-thin laptops such as Alienware m17, Razer Blade Pro, Asus Zephyrus GX701, or the Lenovo Legion Y740-17, which weigh between 2.6 to 3 kg. The GS75 was only 2.3 kg light, but that meant the design is less sturdy and easier to warp or bend. It is unclear if the new design is heavier or better build.

The good news is that the gold hinges from the GS75 model are gone. It is hard to grasp what was the idea behind the original design. The color of those hinges did not fit any laptop, not even ultra-budget Alpha or Bravo series, and definitely not the Stealth series.

The pictures that we are showing in this article were included in the CES 2021 Award page and MSI press release. The description does not mention which Intel CPU will the product feature, but it does mention ‘latest Intel processors and NVIDIA graphics’. We already know that MSI will refresh its GS66 Stealth with 10th Gen Core Comet Lake CPU (i7-10870H), thus the GS76 is likely to follow suit. When it comes to graphics, the notebook is more than likely to feature NVIDIA Ampere based RTX 3060/3070 and RTX 3080 GPUs, depending on the model.

MSI confirmed GS76 Stealth will feature a 360 Hz screen, which is a very unique feature for any gaming laptop right now. Only the ultra-expensive Alienware m17 R3 or Area-51m R2 laptops from Dell currently offer such a screen in mobile form factor. Whether this is a new feature for all high-end laptops and the key upgrade for the GeForce RTX 30 Mobile series, we are about to find out at CES 2021, when such laptops and new GPUs will be officially introduced.
