AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS in Minisforum Mini-PC

The company teases an upcoming UM780/790 lineup featuring AMD’s latest CPU series.

The company did not actually confirm which APU is used, but Chinese media were quick to gather some fresh data from their sources. The last-gen UM690 system packed Ryzen 9 6900HX APU, so it shouldn’t be surprising to see the Zen4 architecture upgrade in the same chassis.

According to the report, Minisforum UM780 would pack Ryzen 7 7840HS, the 16-core Zen4 APU with boost up to 5.1 GHz. The UM790 Pro is an even more powerful version featuring Ryzen 9 7940HS with 5.2 GHz boost. What is worth noting is that both systems have the same RDNA3 integrated graphics with 12 Compute Units, clocked at least 2.7 GHz (2.8 GHz for 7940HS).

The connector layout has slightly changed compared to the previous model, there is an additional USB Type-C connector on the front, and four USB-A ports on the back. The system is also equipped with one HDMI 2.1 connector and an Ethernet port. However, the company is yet to provide all the details.

The UM790 is currently retailing at $799 with an optional $160 coupon.  This means that Ryzen 6900HX system now costs $639. The Phoenix-based model is almost certainly going to cost more at launch, but hopefully not much more.
