AMD Ryzen 8040 3-in-1 tablet from Minisforum gets more detailed specs

Minisforum is providing an update on their upcoming V3 tablet based on AMD Hawk Point CPU series. The company had actually confirmed “Hawk Point” in the very first press release that came out weeks ago, but has later retracted that statement due to breach of NDA with AMD. However, with the cat already out of the bag, we know that this tablet is to feature a Phoenix based APU, which means up to 8 Zen4 cores and 12 RDNA3 CU GPU units.

On Discord, the company has provided an update that claims the system will feature LPDDR5-6400 memory. The speed was already known, but it is now confirmed that it will be 16GB and 32GB memory configuration.

Furthermore, the display is 14-inch and 2.5K (QHD) resolution of 165Hz. That’s a lot of pixels for Phoenix, so gaming on this system may pose a challenge at native resolution. Especially given that the TDP has been confirmed at 28W (previously said to be between 22 to 28W).

What’s new is the information about the storage. The system will support the M.2 2280 form factor, but the interesting detail is that the storage will not be replaceable as it will require screen disassembly. This is a major concern for those who may want to upgrade their storage at some point and means that any potential issue that would require a simple replacement will mean sending the device back to Minisforum.

The stylus that will be offered for the V3 tablet will support MPP2.6 protocol, and it will be magnetically attached to the body. It will not be hidden in the chassis from the looks of it. According to the company, the outer shell has been finalized, and the company is now fine-tuning colors.

Officially this tablet is set to launch in the Q1 2024.
