AMD Ryzen 7 5850U and Ryzen 5 5650U

Just over a month ago, we reported that a new Ryzen mobile CPU had just appeared on the Hewlett Packard website. The new business class laptops were to ship with yet unreleased AMD Ryzen Pro 5000 series CPUs.

Recently Lenovo also confirmed it will launch new ThinkPads laptops with AMD Ryzen Pro 5000 series. The updated ThinkPad T14s were listed by the manufacturer along with specifications for two unreleased AMD Ryzen PRO CPUs. The manufacturer has confirmed that Ryzen 5 PRO 5650U will feature 6 cores, 12 threads and it will boost up to 4.2 GHz. The 8-core model called Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U will boost up to 4.4 GHz. Both SKUs have been listed with TDP of 10 to 25W. Lenovo did not confirm how many graphics Compute Units will the CPUs offer:

Unfortunately, some key specifications are still missing. The original Ryzen 5000U series feature both Zen2 (Lucienne) and Zen3 (Cezanne) parts. The new PRO variants do not appear to be a straight copy of non-PRO SKUs, so it is unclear if we are looking at the new architecture. The same applies to GPU configurations. It is expected that the flagship Ryzen PRO 5000U CPU will offer 8 GPU cores, while 5650U might offer 7, assuming it is to follow other Ryzen 5 parts.

Tomorrow AMD will host a special event where the company is expected to unveil its Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card. The name of the event – “Where Gaming Begins” – suggests that Ryzen PRO mobile series might not be part of the schedule. However, since both HP and Lenovo have listed laptops with new processors, it likely that the company will introduce them very soon.
