Intel’s Next-Gen Xeon Workstation coming this March

February will be an important month for Intel, as the company is to unveil its first HEDT platform in more than 3 years.

Although Intel will be launching these new processors under a Xeon brand, they are the spiritual successors to long forgotten Core-X series, not updated since the 10th Gen series. The upcoming Xeon W2400 and W3400 lineup will not only have many more cores built with the latest architecture, they will also support all modern technologies such as DDR5 or PCIe Gen5. It is no doubt, a major update to Intel’s Xeon/HEDT portfolio.

According to Wccftech, Intel has now set a review embargo for these CPUs. It is reported that Sapphire Rapids Xeon Workstation reviews will be published around February 22nd, so a week after the formal introduction of the new Xeon line. It is worth noting that Intel had already confirmed February 15th announcement date, but the specs and pricing information has not been communicated yet.

Intel will split the launch of the between “Mainstream W2400” series and W3400 SKUs designed for “Experts”. The former will launch alongside brand-new W790 motherboard series between March 8th to March 22nd. The higher-end models will launch between April 12 and April 26th.

The full specs of all W2400/3400 SKUs were already leaked last month. Enthusiast should expect up to 56 cores, unlocked “X” SKUs, quad or octa-channel DDR5 memory support and TDPs ranging from 110 to 350W.

What is yet to be confirmed is how many processors will be sent out to the press for reviews, and how quickly will all 17 new Xeons will appear in stores. The pricing is obviously unknown at this point, but neither Xeon-W nor the W790 motherboards are expected to be cheap.
