Intel Emerald Rapids: 8592+ with 64 cores and 448MB cache and 8558u with 48 cores and 356MB cache

Two of Intel’s yet unannounced Xeon CPUs were recently spotted.

Intel is gearing up to introduce a new series of Xeon CPUs, known as Emerald Rapids. This architecture will serve as an update to the Sapphire Rapids series, which share same LGA 4677 socket.

Recently, a leak featuring a 64-core variant known as the Xeon 8592+ Platinum was shared on Twitter. This is an engineering sample, so the final clocks may look different from the retail version. The information presented here indicates that the CPU has a base clock of 1.9 GHz and a boost clock of up to 3.9 GHz.

In terms of power, the base TDP is set at 350W; however, it can be adjusted to 420W by default, thereby achieving a peak power of 500W. It would also appear that the peak power may go up to 922W, but this could simply be a configuration of this particular pre-release sample/setup.

It’s worth noting that this CPU supports 448MB of combined cache (120MB L2 cache and 320MB L3) which is a notable upgrade over the flagship Sapphire Rapids SKU (8490H) with 232MB of cache.

Additionally, there is a new leak featuring a 48 core and 96 thread variant called 8558U, which has been spotted over at Geekbench. This part appears not to have boost capability enabled or working, with the CPU keeping a 2.0 GHz base clock throughout the test. The CPU is confirmed to feature 356MB of combined cache, so over 150MB more Sapphire Rapids counterpart with the same core count (260MB L3 Cache + 96MB L2 Cache vs. 105 MB L3 + 96 MB L2).

The 5th Generation Xeon Scalable platform introduces several enhancements to the existing Xeon series, including a larger LLC cache, faster DDR5 memory support, CXL Type 3 support, and an overall double-digit increase in terms of performance per watt. More importantly, the new series will now support higher core counts than Sapphire Rapids, going up to 64 cores.
