Intel 14th Gen Core-HX series to feature 8P+16E die exclusively

Leakers begin to clarify the situation on the next gen laptop series featuring the updated Raptor Lake series.

As previously reported, some upcoming 14th Gen Core-HX CPUs are said to feature more core sand cache compared to the last-gen series. Instead of using 8P+8E and 6P+0E dies for the 14th Gen series, it is said that Intel will be using 8P+16P exclusively for entirely lineup. This is according to the hardware leaker and reviewer Golden Pig Upgrade Pack, who is no stranger to our site.

Unlike the desktop lineup, which is expected to see minor changes to the core count (with an exception to Core i7-14700K), the mobile series will see additional modifications in the mid-range segment, claims the source:

The examples we have are based on Core i5-14650HX, which has 8P+8E configuration, adding two more Performance cores from the current product (13650HX). The Core i5-14500HX, on the other hand, would keep the same core count as the current CPU, but it would have more cache because of the silicon change, so it would be similar to what the i5-13650HX offers now. This indicates an upward shift in the lineup and core/cache configurations.

The high-end Core i9 series already had 8P+16E dies, so those CPUs will not change their core count. However, they are likely to have higher clocks and possibly support faster memory speeds for the next-gen mobile platform.

We might learn more about the 14th Gen Core laptop series soon. But we don’t know if Intel will launch its HX CPU series with the desktop K-models in October. The Core-HX series is typically closely associated with laptop GPU launch, although that wasn’t always the case. Should NVIDIA or AMD have new laptop GPUs already this year, that would justify the release of HX series sooner. However, this seems unlikely considering RTX 40 series were launched between February and April this year and AMD has completely ‘forgotten’ to launch its high-end laptop GPUs.
