Core i9-13980HX reportedly boosts up to 5.6 GHz

A new SKU is said to be 200 MHz faster than i9-13900HX, claims Wccftech.

There is yet another Intel 13th Gen Core Raptor Lake-HX CPU in the works. It is revealed that i9-13980HX is to take the top spot in the upcoming 13th Gen Core lineup, which is soon to be announced by Intel.

The i9-13980HX is a 24-core CPU with 8 Performance and 16 Efficient cores. This configuration is already used by Core i9 desktop series, but the plan was to launch the same die for laptops eventually, just as Intel did with Alder Lake-HX series not that long time ago.

The HX series which are using higher 55W TDP than most popular gaming CPUs (45W) are designed for enthusiast and high-end gaming laptops. In most cases, such systems feature flagship discrete gaming GPUs.

It is revealed that this new processor is to boost up to 5.6 GHz which is 600 MHz higher than last-gen i9-12950HX processor and 200 MHz higher than i9-13900HX, thus far the fastest known Alder Lake-HX CPU.

Core i9-13980HX vs. Core i9-12950HX:

  • Cores: 16 → 24
  • Max Boost Clock: 5.0 GHz → 5.6 GHz
  • TDP: 55W

The HX refresh is said to arrive at CES 2023, but we have not yet seen any leak for a particular laptop that could potentially get it. Furthermore, Intel is also announcing Raptor Lake H, HK and P series at the same time. Although Intel is bringing 24-core CPUs to consumer laptop space with this generation, the vast majority of upcoming SKUs will still rely on 14-cores.
