Intel is moving older integrated graphics to legacy software model
Intel is segmenting their graphics drivers even more.
Starting with the 31.0.101.3222 drivers, Intel decided it is time to move Comet Lake, Kaby Lake and Skylake CPU support to legacy branch. Those are the drivers for the integrated graphics solutions.
Intel will now offer two main driver series, for 11th/12th Gen Core and DG1 series, but also for Arc GPUs and 12th Gen Core separately. In our future reporting we will focus on the Arc branch. Hopefully Intel will find a way to merge all branches and stop confusing customers with obsolete and confusing branches.
With 6th to 10th Gen Core series moving to legacy branch, users may see less frequent driver updates. Intel should still release important fixes especially if there are critical bugs or security concerns that can be fixed with software.
