Intel teases upcoming desktop CPU upgrade
Marketing materials confirm configs of three 14th Gen Core models.
The first official marketing materials for Raptor Lake Refresh to leak are not very detailed, but they do confirm the configuration of the new series. The slides show the basic specs for Core i9, Core i7 and Core i5 models, without giving their exact names. The materials verify the 6 GHz clock and 24 core config, as well as 5.6 GHz 20-core and 5.3 GHz 16-core SKUs. These are consistent with the expected specs of 14900K, 14700K and 14600K models respectively.

The i9-14900K will not be Intel’s first 6 GHz processor, but it will be the first one that is not a special edition (KS). The new model will also have a lower default TDP of 125W compared to the 150W i9-13900KS. The materials also confirm that the Intel Core i7 desktop CPU will now feature 20 cores, as a result of adding 4 more Efficient cores to the configuration. The specs match exactly what we expected, with a 200 MHz increase across the stack.

At the same time, there are leaks originating from initial retail appearances. The stores in Asia show minimal adherence to embargoes, resulting in packaging photos steadily surfacing by the day.
Intel is now expected to launch its new series on October 17th. The company has not yet confirmed the pricing.
