Today Intel introduces a cheaper (but also slower) 10-core processor based on Comet Lake-S architecture.
Enter Core i9-10850K: 453 USD for 10-cores
Intel is finally responding to recent AMD Matisse 2 (aka Refresh) launch of Ryzen 3000XT processors. The company is adding a new high-end SKU featuring 10 cores and 20 threads. The processor is, as rumored, 100 MHz slower than Core i9-10900K across all official frequencies.
The base clock of the Core i9-10850K is 3.6 GHz with Turbo Boost Max 2.0 reaching 5.0 GHz and Turbo Boost 2.0 going up to 5.1. This processor also supports Thermal Velocity Boost which should reach 5.2 GHz on a single core and 4.8 GHz with all cores. Despite being slower than 10900K, the TDP remains the same – 125W.
This processor requires LGA1200 motherboard, such as Z490, H470, or B460, although it would probably make sense to pair it with the higher-end board for overclocking. The new CPU also has the same Tau and PL1/PL2 values as 10900K (56sec, 125W, and 250W respectively).
The Core i9-10850K will still retail at 453 USD (MSRP for 1k units), which is -10.9% cheaper than the flagship Core i9-10900K processor. Intel is also adding new Celeron processors, the G5925 and G5905. Both are priced exactly like G59x0 models, which are also 100 Mhz slower than the new parts.
