Intel Core i9-14900HX now the fastest mobile CPU in Geekbench
Question is, now good will it be in gaming.
Intel has officially announced an imminent update for the 14th Gen Core mobile series, the new 55W Core-HX models. This implies that Intel intends to unveil a minimum of three product series during its forthcoming December product launch event. These include the Core (Ultra) 100 Meteor Lake/Raptor Lake Refresh, 5th Gen Xeon Scalable “Emerald Rapids,” and the 14th Gen Core-HX series tailored for high-end laptops. The supposed flagship SKU among the HX lineup is the Core i9-14900HX.
As per information leaked through a Geekbench test, the CPU is expected to feature 24 cores and 32 threads, aligning with the configuration of the desktop 14900K. However, the default TDP for the mobile variant is set at 55W, a departure from the 125W seen in the desktop counterpart. The Geekbench results, which came from testing on a new Acer Predator system with an RTX 4080 Laptop GPU, show a high really score and frequency.
Digging into the detailed JSON data derived from the benchmark, it is shown that the CPU achieved a maximum frequency of 5763 MHz during the test. Thus, one could assume that the maximum boost clock could reach up to 5.8 GHz. This represents a 200 MHz boost over the i9-13980HX and a 400 MHz improvement over the i9-13900HX. Importantly, there is no indication of the supposed 14980HX SKU so far, making the 14900HX the expected new flagship in this series.

A quick comparison with publicly available data indicates that the i9-14900HX may emerge as the new champion in Geekbench single-core and multi-core tests. The CPU has scored 2998 points in ST and 17937 score in MT tests. That’s the highest ST/MT score in Notebookcheck ranking for mobile SKU.

The 24-core CPU is just one of the four known models to be released next month. It’s likely that Intel will have more SKUs coming, but it’s too early to tell how many. The 14900HX and 14700HX tests have revealed that both parts provide a 400 MHz boost over their predecessors. Would that be enough to beat AMD’s Ryzen 7045HX Dragon Range series in gaming? We will find out in a couple of weeks.
