Less than a week since the first information on Intel Core i9-13980HX was published, ASUS engineering team delivers a confirmation that such processor does indeed exist. As a reminder, this is a desktop class processor on a BGA package designed for enthusiast and premium gaming systems. It is using a repurposed die from the desktop processor, delivering the highest core count ever to such form factor.

The system labeled as “ROG Strx G634JZ” suggests we are looking at a ROG Strix system with a 16-inch display. The company already offers 15 and 17 inch models, so this notebook would definitely feature a new chassis. Furthermore, there is a second laptop codenamed “ROG Strix G814JZ“, which should be the 18-inch version that was rumored for a while now.

Both systems reportedly feature 24-core i9-13980HX CPU which boosts up to 5.386 GHz as per Geekbench data. The reported maximum frequency is below of what was said earlier (up to 5.6 GHz).

There is a bit of discrepancy between both results, the G16 score appears to be below expectations and even lower than i9-13900HX score that we saw a few days ago. However, the G18 score is about 5% and 2% better respectively in single and multi-threaded Geekbench tests. Therefore, teh difference between 13980HX and 13900HX CPUs is miniscule.

This HX processor is now reportedly launching at CES 2023 along with Raptor Lake H and HK series. ASUS already confirmed a press event on January 3rd where all new mobile gaming systems are to be unveiled.
