Intel Comet Lake-S gets more SKUs
Just two days ago we reported that DigitalStorm is now listing yet unannounced Intel Core i9 processor as an option for its prebuilt system. The new processor called Core i9-10850K is a second major 10-core CPU from the Comet Lake-S series. The CPU appears to have on average 100 MHz lower clock speeds than the flagship model.
Back in May, Intel introduced the Comet Lake-S series featuring Core K, Core non-K, Core T, Celeron, and Pentium processors. It definitely is a huge list of processors. Somehow CPU makers are still finding a reason to release dual-core processors in 2020. Typical consumers should easily be able to find better deals from a used hardware market. These 50 USD processors are mostly bought by business owners on tight budgets, where warranty is more important.
What is hard to understand though is why Intel needs 10 SKUs based on dual-core silicon. A recent leak from LambdaTek revealed that Intel is adding Celeron G5925 and Celeron G5905 processors. Both likely to be dual-core and dual-thread model. These processors have no turbo clock and they should have the same TDP as the original models. Based on the listing, they appear to have 100 MHz higher clock speeds of 3.6 and 3.5 GHz respectively. Interestingly though, the listings reveal that the new Celeron CPUs will have 4MB cache, as opposed to 2MB on the original models.
A quick price comparison reveals that the new Celeron SKUs will be around 5% more expensive (around 2 USD more). When it comes to Core i9-10850K, various sites list it at 473 EUR, 460 GBP, or 445 USD. Depending on a retailer, the 10850K will be 8-15% cheaper than 10900K.
