Core i7-14700HX has more cores and higher clocks than 13700HX
The Intel Core i7 teir gets a big upgrade for both desktop and mobile devices.
The mobile SKU, Core i7-14700HX, features 20 cores and 28 threads, mirroring the configuration of the Core i7-14700K. This unique core setup isn’t a new for the Intel mobile platform, but it represents an improvement over the previous generation i7-13700HX.
Intel has already introduced the Core i7-14700K desktop CPU, which boasts the same configuration of hybrid design with 8 P-Cores and 12 E-Cores. This SKU achieves a maximum clock speed of 5.6 GHz. Previously, such a core configuration was limited to the Core i7-13850HX, which didn’t gain widespread popularity among laptop manufacturers. This design is now making its way to desktop and high-end systems based on 14th Gen Core series.
An entry on Geekbench provides insights into the upcoming i7-14700HX CPU’s performance, indicating a maximum clock speed of 5287 MHz. However, detailed JSON data from this specific benchmark suggests that the clock frequency reached even higher levels, peaking at 5462 MHz, technically falling within the 5.4-5.5 GHz range. This places almost as high as the last-gen flagship model with 5.6 GHz turbo clock.

Regarding performance, the new CPU clearly outperforms the previous 13700HX generation model in multicore by 18.7% due to the increased core count. The single-core boost also shows an improvement of at least 12% higher score. It’s worth mentioning that Geekbench’s official CPU ranking does not include performance figures for many of the high-end mobile parts, but Notebookcheck has comprehensive data in their ranking.

As for Intel’s release plans, there hasn’t been official confirmation on the launch date for the 14th Gen Core-HX series. However, Intel has scheduled an event for the mobile Meteor Lake (Core Ultra) series on December 14th. It’s possible that the CPU series in question may be introduced during this event. From a technical standpoint, there shouldn’t be any obstacles preventing Intel from releasing them sooner, this is after all, just a Refresh.
