Intel 6th Gen Core GPU drivers are officially reached EOL

Intel pushes Skylake iGPU aside.

Intel 6th Gen Core CPUs will no longer receive updates for the integrated graphics. The company has confirmed that the product series has reached “end of life” status as of December 2022 last year. This means that Intel will no longer maintain drivers for the series.

The product series codenamed Skylake have seen a market debut in 2015. That said, the driver support will be discontinued nearly 8 years after product launch. The longevity of this platform has exceeded expectations, but it is unlikely that systems running 6th Gen Core series still need frequent GPU drivers.

The iGPU part of Skylake is not powerful, it is incapable of providing any gaming experience in modern titles, so frequent GPU drivers were not exactly needed anymore. However, Intel Skylake CPU may now receive fewer security updates moving forward.

The GPU driver that was offered for 6th to 10th Gen Core series has now been updated to support 7th to 10th series. Thus, it is only the 6th generation that was removed from the package.
