Intel Raptor Lake Refresh launches today
Intel Unveils 14th Generation “Raptor Lake Refresh” Desktop Processors: Specs and Pricing
Today Intel officially unveils its 14th Generation desktop processors, codenamed “Raptor Lake Refresh.” These CPUs ensure a smooth upgrade path for users of 12th and 13th-generation processors by retaining compatibility with the LGA 1700 socket. They also mark the last generation of the LGA1700 series.
Leading the pack is the Intel Core i9-14900K, boasting a configuration of 24 cores and 32 threads, setting a new benchmark in the lineup. It’s powered by Intel’s hybrid architecture, which combines 8 Performance cores and 16 Efficient cores, representing the higher core count available in this generation. Although the core count doesn’t surpass that of the 13th Gen series, the new feature here is the 6.0 GHz clock speed, a 200 MHz improvement over its predecessor. This also the same spec as the Core i9-13900KS which was an expensive special edition for overclockers.

While the Core i9-14900K and Core i5-14600K represent a refresh with primarily enhanced clock speeds, the Core i7-14700K stands out by introducing a higher core count, now featuring 20 cores. This SKU combines 8 P-Cores with 12 E-Cores, a configuration previously seen in the mobile 13th Gen Core-HX series.
Notably, the Core i7-14700K also boasts a higher clock speed of 5.6 GHz, a 200 MHz improvement over its predecessor. Interestingly, Intel’s choice not to focus on this CPU with their review kits led to the majority of media outlets receiving the 14900K and 14600K for testing. However, there’s good news for enthusiasts as several reviewers have managed to obtain the Core i7 SKU for evaluation.

The CPU series is now available, though pricing may appear slightly higher than what Intel’s slides initially indicated. The reason for this is simple, as Intel’s RCP (Recommended Consumer Price) is typically intended for bulk orders of 1000 units, allowing for potential price adjustments. Currently, you can find the 14th Gen series CPUs starting at a base price of $304 for the 14600KF, with the flagship 14900K model being offered at $599.
Additionally, in January, Intel is set to launch the remaining SKUs known as the non-K models, or those with a power rating of 65W and below. The K-series, as emphasized in Intel’s official marketing materials, are designed for overclocking.
