Half Life 2 RTX announced
Half Life 2 is getting a complete overhaul thanks to NVIDIA’s free tool called RTX Remix.
A talented group of modders, representing four of the top Half Life 2 mod teams, has come together to form Orbifold Studios. Their mission is to breathe new life into the beloved 2004 classic, Half Life 2, using the NVIDIA RTX Remix tool. While it may not be the long-awaited Half Life 3, this project is a gift that dedicated HL fans shouldn’t overlook.
This marks the second instance of Valve’s library benefiting from a makeover with NVIDIA RTX technology. The first was Portal RTX, now a cornerstone in showcasing NVIDIA’s graphics tech, including the forthcoming DLSS 3.5.
The RTX Remix tool has injected a significant dose of enhancement into the game. It brings high-quality assets, meticulously detailed models (with 20 times more geometric details), significantly higher resolution textures (8 times the pixels), and an improved lighting system. The latter has received a substantial boost with full ray tracing support from NVIDIA, alongside DLSS 3 and Reflex. There’s even support for RTX IO, all bundled within the RTX Remix toolkit.
It’s crucial to note that Half Life 2 RTX is still a work in progress and lacks an official release date. The mod is actively under development, with the team actively seeking additional members to expedite the process. While the RTX Remix version might not be hitting screens anytime soon, there is hope that a demo will become available at some point.
