Gigabyte is set to announce its new AORUS Gaming BOX.
AORUS RTX 3080 GAMING BOX (GV-N3080IXEB-10GD)
The new GPU enclosure features Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card. This particular device ships with AORUS RTX 3080 WaterForce graphics card, thus we are looking at a very similar solution to the last-gen (Turing) series.
Design-wise the enclosure looks the same as the one based on RTX 2080 Ti. It measures 30 x 14 x 17 cm in size and weighs around 3.8 kg. The only visible difference between the last generation and the new RTX 3080 Box is the display output configuration. The USB Type-C (VirtualLink) connector has been replaced with secondary HDMI. Thus, the Box offers three DisplayPorts and two HDMI. There are also Thunderbolt 3, Ethernet, and three USB ports, but those were already available on the RTX 2080 Ti model.
The AORUS RTX 3080 Gaming Box is an external GPU solution for ultra-portable laptops. It utilizes the Thunderbolt connector limited to PCIe 3.0 x4 speed, which will certainly not offer the same performance as a full-fledged desktop graphics card.
The RTX 3080 10GB graphics card, which is preinstalled with the enclosure, is not factory-overclocked. The AORUS Gaming Box features a power supply rated at 550W (90% efficiency), which is enough to power a high-end GeForce card through two 8-pin power connectors. It is worth noting that the 2080 Ti AORUS Box featured 450W PSU.
Gigabyte is also preparing a BOX with RTX 3090 GPU. Both solutions should be announced by the manufacturer very soon. At the time of writing the pricing remained unknown.
