Both manufacturers have not yet shown their custom RX 6800 series.

Gigabyte and Sapphire announce Radeon RX 6800 series

Gigabyte was the first manufacturer to reveal its reference-based Radeon RX 6800 series. These cards are not manufactured by Gigabyte, but produced by AMD and sold by Gigabyte. The only thing that Gigabyte does to these cards is packaging and a fancy sticker, which can be seen applied on the side of the graphics card in the pictures below.

Gigabyte confirmed it will be selling two Radeon RX 6800 cards: the RX 6800 XT and RX 6800 non-XT. Both models are based on Navi 21 GPU paired with 16GB of GDDR6 memory and 128-bit MB Infinity Cache. The main difference between the SKUs is the Compute Unit count, which is 72 for 6800XT and 60 for 6800 non-XT. The latter model is also rated at 250W, while the XT SKU is 300W. This model also has a thicker 2.5-slot design.

Sapphire also announced two SKUs:

  • SAPPHIRE Radeon RX 6800 16GB (21305-01-20G)
  • SAPPHIRE Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB (21304-01-20G)

The cards are too based on AMD reference design with no visual changes or pre-applied stickers visible on the renders/photos. Sapphire uploaded many photos to their site, revealing the details on AMD reference design. The difference in graphics cards thickness and easily be seen when looking from the side, since RX 6800 XT is 2.5 slot, while 6800 is a ‘pure’ dual-slot design.

There are no major visual differences between the backplates on both models. What does, however, differ on both SKUs is the color of the Radeon logo. The RX 6800 XT appears to have a translucent (white) logo, while the 6800 non-XT ships with a red-only Radeon logo. We are not sure why, but one would guess that the 6800XT is translucent to support a full spectrum of RGB lightning.
