GALAX RTX 4090 20th Anniversary pictured and detailed some more
According to the company, the RTX 4090 20th Anniversary Edition is the first desktop card to feature an HDMI retimer chip, improving long-distance HDMI connections.
HDMI retimers serve various functions and can be installed on source, receiving (called sink), and repeater devices. They play a crucial role in eliminating noise and jitter from signals in order to meet the demands of high-bandwidth connections. HDMI retimers can be found in gaming consoles and laptops that need longer connections to external displays, such as TVs. This is different from computer graphics cards that are usually connected to monitors close by.
The GALAX RTX 4090, released as a special anniversary edition of the company’s operation in China, utilizes the Parade PS8419 chip as its HDMI retimer. This chip supports the full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth with a Fixed Data Link of 12 Gbps, crucial for achieving higher uncompressed resolutions beyond 4K60 and an ultra-high bandwidth of 48 Gbps, claims the company. While the RTX 4090 GPU may not necessarily require this feature, it ensures full compatibility with the HDMI 2.1 standard, potentially eliminating the need for additional devices.
It’s noteworthy that this retimer feature applies to only one HDMI port, with the card still offering three DisplayPort 1.4a connectors. Regarding the hardware design, the PCB, which was pictured for the first time, features a 24+4 power stage configuration that supplies power to the AD102-301 GPU and 24GB of GDDR6X memory.
The RTX 4090 20th Anniversary card boasts more than just the retimer; it features a triple-fan design, with one fan on the opposite side, akin to NVIDIA Founder Edition models. Additionally, it includes a concealed 12VHPWR connector beneath a small magnetically attached cover, contributing to the clean design look.
However, it’s worth mentioning that the primary issue with this card is its availability. According to GALAX, this model is not expected to launch in the global market and is designed exclusively for the Chinese market.
