GALAX HOF Extreme 50S, an even faster PCIe Gen5 SSDs

GALAX reveals an updated PCIe Gen5 storage for high-end desktop and laptops.

The HOF Extreme 50 was announced in December last year, and it was among the fastest solid-state storage for consumers at the time. Nonetheless, like with all new hardware, the availability of PCIe Gen5 SSDs remained a problem through the first quarter. But eventually, new types of storage have finally come out, and it is now relatively easy to get one.

The next step for storage companies is to deliver an even faster SSDs, as better controllers are released and more capable cooling solutions are developed.  GALAX’s new HOF Extreme 50S is an upgrade over the 2022 SSDs by improving the read and write speeds from 10/9.5 GB/s to 12.4/11.8 GB/s. Furthermore, the IOPS has been increased from 1500/1250 to 1500/1500, which is a 25% improvement.

  • HOF Extreme 50 1TB: 9500 MB/s & 1300K IPS (read), 8500 MB/s & 1100K IOPS (write)
  • HOF Extreme 50 2TB: 10000 MB/s & 1500K IPS (read), 9500 MB/s & 1250K IOPS (write)
  • HOF Extreme 50S 2TB: 12400 MB/s & 1500K IPS (read), 11800 MB/s & 1500K IOPS (write)

According to media reports from China, this storage uses the same Phison controller as the previous model, which is PS5026-E26. Initially, it will be released with 2TB capacity but 4TB is also planned. There is, however, no mention of 1TB option. The SSDs should be launched ‘soon’, but neither pricing nor the exact release date were shared by the media and the company itself.
