Elon Musk demos Cyberpunk 2077 on Tesla’s new infotainment system powered by AMD Navi 23 GPU

Elon Musk says Tesla’s new infotainment system is now as powerful as PlayStation 5

The first public demo of the AMD Navi 23 GPU.

The central console has a large 17-inch display with 2200×1300 resolution. But the central processing unit feeds data and images to another two screens. Tesla has made improvements in system UI, display quality, or even to the car audio system, which is powered by Tesla’s own codec. The biggest change, however, has come to the GPU capabilities of the new infotainment system.

During the Model S Plaid model launch, Elon has delivered on his promise that the new infotainment system can play Cyberpunk. In fact, this was shown at the event during a live demo. Elon said that the system delivers high framerates in modern games, however, it is not quite clear at what resolution and settings.

AMD Navi 23 is the latest addition to the RDNA2 family. This entry-level GPU offers up to 2048 Stream Processors and is paired with up to 8GB of GDDR6 memory. Tesla has not confirmed the specs of its chip, so it is unclear if the car manufacturer uses the cut-down version like the recently announced Radeon Pro W6600, or rather the full-fat version. Based on AMD Radeon Pro specs though, this chip can deliver as much as 10 TFLOPS of FP32 compute power with 1792 cores, which is quite surprising considering 100W TDP (for desktop GPU) and up to 90W TGP (for mobile GPU). That said, this GPU would be a perfect fit for power-constrained onboard infotainment systems such as Teslas.

Tesla has not yet confirmed whether its infotainment system is also powered by AMD Ryzen CPU, as some leaks have suggested. However, if that was true, then it would be another all-AMD-powered system just like XBOX Series X|S and PlayStation5.

Tesla Model S Plaid costs 122,990 USD. The first 25 cars were delivered today by Elon Musk himself. According to Tesla’s order page future deliveries are to be expected around August for US residents.
