NVIDIA not abandoning desktop RTX 3050 series after all?

Kopite7kimi provides an update on GeForce RTX 3050 series.

We have not heard about the desktop RTX 3050 series since January this year when the card last appeared on the roadmap. NVIDIA has not abandoned the plans to introduce GA107-based desktop SKUs entirely, but there have been no updates on the series for almost a year. In the meantime, the company released a mobile version of RTX 3050 Ti and RTX 3050 SKUs with no desktop models insight.

Kopite7kimi, a known leaker sharing NVIDIA confidential information is now claiming that there are new specs for both SKUs. While he clearly tagged both tweets as a rumor, we can be sure they are not based on speculation, he probably wouldn’t have made a tweet if that was the case.

According to him, GeForce RTX 3050 Ti would feature GA106-150 GPU with 3072 CUDA cores and either 6GB or 12GB memory. This card would be a direct competitor to Radeon RX 6600 non-XT, which means that the 6GB variant might have to wait for AMD to drop the 6600 4GB SKU variant first (supposedly also planned) while focusing on the 12GB model later.

Unlike the Ti variant, desktop RTX 3050 would feature GA107-350 GPU with more TGP. The specs bump is not explained, but one would assume it would not be the full spec GA107 GPU with 2560 CUDA cores, but something in between initially rumored 2304 and the full silicon configuration. This model is therefore to feature a 128-bit memory bus which leaves 4GB or 8GB memory capacity as options.

Kopite did not mention a possible launch date for the RTX 3050 series, and neither have we heard any updates on these SKUs yet. However, should more information become available we will post an update.
