ASUS is launching a new version of its top-tier motherboard for the Z490 chipset.

ASUS ROG Maximus XII Extreme GUNDAM comes with a preinstalled waterblock

The Extreme GUNDAM is a special edition inspired by a Japanse anime about giant humanoid robots. The original Maximus XII EXTREME (M12E) was already designed for water cooling with its oversized aluminium heatsinks, passive I/O cooling, dedicated water cooling zones (W_FLow tachometers/W_IN/OUT T-Sensor) and multiple 4-PIN PWM fan headers.

The GUNDAM edition features a preinstalled monoblock over the CPU, VRM and chipsets areas. There are appear to be no changes to the PCB layout, but the motherboard covers are now of different colors: silver/blue and red.

The OLED screen over the M.2 slot is certainly gone, but we do not have any other pictures to say that GUNDAM no longer has any other screen.

The motherboard is based on Intel’s Z490 chipset, which will be replaced by Z590 series in about 5 to 6 months. The GUNDAM motherboard will certainly be a collector’s items. We do not know if the motherboard will be offered outside Japan, a country that this model is certainly aimed for.

Of course, this is not the only GUNDAM inspired product by ASUS. The company had already released gaming routers featuring a similar design:
