ASUS and Lenovo preparing high-end laptops for Raptor Lake Refresh
The 14th Gen HX update coming to laptops.
According to information found on the PugetBench website, ASUS is set to unveil an updated version of their premium mobile gaming laptop, featuring an Intel CPU from the new series. The ROG Strix Scar 16 comes packed with top-tier specifications, including a 1600p 240Hz display, 32GB of DDR5 memory, and, notably, up to RTX 4090 graphics card.
The upcoming system will be powered by the Core i9-14900HX processor, part of the forthcoming Intel Raptor Lake Refresh series. What’s intriguing is that the laptop’s model number hasn’t received changes, suggesting that the newer version will retain the same chassis as the existing model. This implies that both the Core i9-13980HX and 14900HX offer similar specifications and comparable power and thermal characteristics.
Regrettably, the final specifications for this laptop update have not been confirmed yet. However, there’s a strong possibility that it will be equipped with 24 cores, comprising 8 P-Cores and 16 E-Cores. Notably, the turbo clock is expected to surpass 5.6 GHz, which matches the specifications of the previous flagship processor, the i9-13980HX, also utilized by Scar 16 systems. Worth noting that the ROG Scar laptops offer increased TDP from 55W to 65W.

Additionally, there’s a leak from retailers that reveals the complete 14th Gen Core update for the Lenovo Legion series. The company is set to introduce the Legion 9, featuring the i9-14900HX processor, along with options for either RTX 4090 or 4080 graphics. Furthermore, the Legion 7 will come equipped with the i7-14700HX, and the Legion 5 will sport the i7-14650HX. At this time, there is no information about any other Intel CPUs being planned for these models.

Currently, it appears that Intel’s new gaming laptops could be revealed at any moment, as they are already listed by certain retailers. Additionally, there is no indication of a potential RTX 40 SUPER refresh for laptops, so there may be no reason to wait for NVIDIA’s release. It is still uncertain whether Intel has plans for additional 55W “HX” SKUs, as further details have not been confirmed.
