ASUS’ lineup of new Z790 motherboards boasts distinctive designs. The company has already unveiled motherboards such as the ROG Maximus Z790 Dark Hero, the ROG Strix Z790-A Gaming WiFi II, and the TUF Gaming Z790-Pro WiFi. Just today, they revealed an overclocking board known as the ROG Maximus Z790 APEX Encore for the first time. However, there has been one missing model in the Z790 series since 2022 – the Formula.

The company did mention the Formula board in 2022, but it never made it to market. With Intel postponing its LGA-1851 socket to the following year and deciding to launch another round of LGA-1700 desktop CPUs, ASUS concluded that it was finally time for an entirely new board, rather than just a refresh.

The ROG Formula will feature a distinctive black and white design, matching the aesthetics of the Z690 design. A quick look at the new model reveals that the layout hasn’t changed significantly. The board still offers the “ROG Water-Cooling Zone,” allowing users to connect a liquid cooling loop directly to the board to cool down the VRMs. It also maintains its E-ATX design with four DDR5 DIMM slots and two PCIe Gen5 x16 slots. The packaging confirms that the Z790 Formula will upgrade the standard from WiFi-6E (Z690) to the WiFi-7 standard.

The board is currently undergoing testing by reviewers, and we can expect to hear more about it very soon. Intel is scheduled to launch its new desktop series on October 17th, so it’s reasonable to assume that the ROG Formula will be featured in that coverage.
