ASUS teases ROG Flow Z13 gaming tablet with discrete GPU support

The Flow X13 might soon have a younger sibling, the Z13.

The ROG Flow X13 is an ultra-thin 13-inch gaming laptop, which is shipped with AMD Ryzen 9 5800HS processor and GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics. This laptop had a unique PCIe Gen3 x8 based connector for external discrete ASUS ROG XG Mobile GPUs. Users could attach RTX 3080 Laptop GPU directly into the laptop to increase GPU performance. While similar Thunderbolt-based solutions are already available, the ASUS solution is incomparably more compact. With the new tablet coming, high-performance gaming could get even more mobile.

The teaser image posted by ASUS appears to confirm that the tablet will have an XG Mobile connector. This means that the tablet is Windows-based and will target the same market Microsoft Surface Pro 8 does, which are powerful 2-in-1 convertibles.

Since its spiritual successor came with the latest (at the time) AMD Ryzen CPU, the X13 Flow should be no exception. AMD is now set to unveil its AMD Ryzen 6000 series codenamed “Rembrandt” featuring Zen3+ and RDNA2 microarchitectures at CES 2022, the same day the ASUS ROG press event takes place. The X13 Flow could threfore be one of the first devices to feature those APUs.

The full picture of the ROG Z13 Flow has already been leaked by Evan Blass almost two months ago. The teaser image appears to be the exact match for this design.
