The new graphics card from ASUS features NVIDIA flagship SKU and custom blower-type cooling. This somewhat unexpected combination will launch as ASUS RTX 3090 TURBO.

If you are wondering if you already read similar news then you are right. Gigabyte also released its RTX 3090 TURBO featuring the same type of cooling solution. It is unclear why both manufacturers the same naming though.

What might be surprising is that the graphics card can be overclocked to 1725 MHz and still be within the recommended specifications. Such frequency is not applied automatically, instead, it requires in-house ASUS GPU Tweak software that will automatically overclock the graphics card once the system starts.

The GeForce RTX 3090 features GA102-300 GPU with 10496 CUDA cores. This is the top model in the NVIDIA lineup that may soon be challenged by the Radeon RX 6900 XT. Unlike the AMD card though, the 3090 comes with a 24GB of GDDR6X memory.

The blower-type graphics cards are often used in multi-GPU systems and RTX 3090 does indeed great in scientific and professional workloads. Unlike RTX 3080 and any other card from the Ampere series, the RTX 3090 is the only model to support the NVLink connector.

The graphics cards with exhaust cooling are quite rare these days. The ever-growing power requirements of the next-gen high-end graphics cards are certainly not helping here. The Geforce RTX 3090 alone has a default TDP of 350W. The ASUS RTX 3090 TURBO required an exceptional cooling solution and thus the heatsink was made from pure copper:

ASUS RTX 3090 TURBO requires a 750W power supply and measures 26.8cm x 11.3 cm. It’s a pure dual-slot design. The manufacturer has not revealed the pricing of this card yet, but it certainly won’t cost less than NVIDIA MSRP, which is 1,499 USD.
