Arcadegeddon PC and PS5 get FSR
The fact that Arcamaggedon gets AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution support is not a surprise, as AMD officially announced this game joining the list of supported titles, but the fact that a PlayStation build of the same game also does certainly is an important development.
In the recent patch notes, Arcamageddon developers have revealed that not only the PC version but also the PlayStation 5 build is getting AMD FSR support. This marks the moment when the first console game gets AMD super resolution technology, even before Xbox games do.
Unlike PlayStation, Sony never announced that AMD FSR is being implemented into their SDK. Microsoft, on the other hand, has publicly confirmed that their XBOX Game Development Kit now includes AMD FSR libraries, enabling much faster implementation for game developers.
In addition to FSR, the PlayStation 5 version has TAAU enabled by default, this is Temporal Anti-Aliasing Upsample which is part of the Unreal Engine. TAAU offers a better converge of sharper images but requires more processing power at higher resolutions. By combining both technologies Arcamageddon developers have found a way to increase both the quality of the image and performance.
