Gigabyte’s Gen5 SSDs listed on Amazon and Newegg

The first PCIe Gen5 SSDs are now available for preorder in the US.

Gigabyte is the first brand to offer its AORUS Gen5 10000 series to US customers. The company is now offering its 2TB storage at a price of $339.99, which is $0.17 per GB. Compared to the last-gen Gen4 7000s model, that’s $170 pricier.

Unlike other brands, AORUS Gen4 storage didn’t peak at 7GB/s. Customers were to expect up to 5 GB/s sequential speed from the last-gen model. However, the new Gen5 10000 SSD offers up to 10 GB/s peak read speed and up to 9.5GB sequential write speed. This is one of the fastest Gen5 storage so far announced.

AORUS Gen5 storage features 232-layer NAND memory and comes with a Thermal Guard Xtreme heatsink included. It is unclear if the storage can work without the heatsink and whether Gigabyte has plans to sell a cheaper model without it. However, reviewers already have this storage for testing, so it is only a matter of time until we learn more.
