AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX to feature 12 cores?

Possibly, the first sign of next-gen AMD Ryzen mobile CPU.

Over at Ashes of the Singularity ‘leak’ website, we can now find a benchmark result featuring an alleged Ryzen 9 7845HX processor. The data associated with this SKU is limited, but the software ‘confirms’ it is a 12 core & 24 thread SKU. The same configuration is used by Ryzen 9 7900X desktop CPU and displayed in the same way (24 physical and logical cores).

What this means is that the 7845HX CPU is likely a repurposed desktop silicon, similar to Intel HX series soon to be upgraded to 13th Gen Core series. Also, the first Ryzen-HX SKU to feature more than 8 cores.

This summer AMD revealed its plan to change the Ryzen 7000 mobile naming schema. Along the new disclosure, AMD confirmed a Ryzen 9 7945HX CPU “Dragon Range” Zen4 CPU. One might assume that we will get a 16-core SKU for laptops as well, which would have to compete against Intel Core i9-13900HX with 24 cores (8P+16E).

Should AMD use the same desktop I/O die for its mobile SKUs, then the integrated graphics might be limited to 2 Compute Units. However, since this is a chiplet design, AMD has a choice to replace the IOD with a more powerful graphics. At the same time, AMD could limit other features that are not as important to the mobile segment as they are for desktop, such as the number of PCIe lanes.

AMD Ryzen 7000HX series are now expected to launch next year, possibly at CES 2023. The HX series represent the highest tier in AMD mobile portfolio, designed for extreme gaming and content creation.
