AMD Ryzen 7000 non-X series get lower prices, but so far only in China

Chinese media report AMD Ryzen 7000 desktop CPUs are now available at their lowest price yet.

The AMD Ryzen 7000 series have had three waves of launches. The original 7000X desktop CPUs were quickly followed by non-X variants designed to operate at lower TDP. Earlier this month, AMD had an important update with the 7000X3D series, delivering the best gaming performance yet.

Meanwhile, Chinese gamers can now find great deals on 7000 non-X series. A good example is the 12-core Ryzen 9 7900 non-X, which debuted at 4299 RMB (in China) and 429 USD in the US. It can now be found for as little as 2599 RMB (370 USD). That’s actually cheaper than the official MSRP and that’s even with the sales tax (13%) included.

It is not just the Ryzen 9 7900 that has been discounted. The current promotion on 8-core Ryzen 7 7700 is just as worthy of a mention. It is now priced at 1949 RMB (283 USD), again less than AMD MSRP after conversion (329 USD). Even the 6-core Ryzen 5 7600 was affected by the recent price adjustment, currently listed at 1449 RMB (210 USD), which is again lower than the official MSRP of 249 USD.

There is a good reason why this news should not be ignored by non-Chinese gamers. The price cuts of the original Ryzen 7000 series began with massive discounts in China. It took another 2 weeks for buyers from other countries to get just as impressive price adjustments for AMD AM5 CPUs. We should know soon enough whether this wave of price cuts reaches other markets.

However, there is a good reason to believe AMD Ryzen 7000 non-X price adjustment is likely imminent. At least two large retailers (Newegg and Amazon) now have 7900X listed at a lower price ($426) than 7900 ($429). This does not make much sense and should be subject to change soon.
