AMD Ryzen 7 7840S and 7640S now available
AMD has prepared a special version of its Phoenix APU under Ryzen 7040S series, which is currently exclusively used by one laptop maker only.
Lenovo’s latest addition to its laptop lineup, referred to as the Lenovo Yoga Air 14S or Yoga Slim 7 Gen 8 (14″ AMD), introduces a thin and lightweight laptop experience, powered by the AMD Ryzen 7040S series. Within the Yoga Slim platform, users can make a choice between the Ryzen 5 7640S or Ryzen 7 7840S APUs.
These APUs present specifications akin to those of the 7040U series, but with custom modifications crafted specifically for Lenovo, utilizing theFP8 package exclusively. Although full specifications for the 7640S and 7840S models are not yet available on the AMD website, initial information suggests that their clock speeds are identical. It’s plausible that there might be adjustments in power levels, mirroring the approach seen in the Ryzen Z1 series, which also finds its roots in the Phoenix architecture.
This laptop platform is now available for purchase in Europe and China under distinct names. The Chinese laptop listing reveals the following details on the Ryzen 7 7840S:

Lenovo has evidently dedicated substantial attention to the screen, which is a 14.5-inch 3K (2944×1840) OLED display incorporating HDR500 support and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. Accompanying this is a six-speaker setup with Dolby Atmos support, aiming to improve the audio experience.
In terms of performance, users have the option of a 6-core Zen4 configuration or an 8-core Zen4 configuration. However, it appears that the 6-core variant is not presently listed in China based on our verification. The selection of memory encompasses either 16GB or 32GB of LPDDR5X-6400, and storage choices span from 512GB to 1TB.

The pricing structure for the Yoga Slim 7 14 varies across regions. In Europe, the 7840S powered laptop commands a price of €1432 (equivalent to 1564 USD), while the 7640S specifications come at a slightly reduced cost by €100. Within China, there are two models both equipped with the 7840S APU, priced at 8299 RMB (approximately 1140 USD) or 7999 RMB (around 1100 USD), which differ in the memory configuration of 32GB or 16GB respectively.
