AMD Phoenix is 26% faster than Rembrandt

Chinese tech outlet provides another leak featuring AMD’s upcoming 8-core processors with Zen4 architecture.

Just yesterday the same account shared the very first Radeon 780M RDNA3 integrated GPU scores in 3DMark TimeSpy, only to share first CPU benchmarks today as well.

The CPU listed as Ryzen 7 7840HS is an 8-core and 16-thread CPU with base clock of 3.8 GHz and boost up to 5.1 GHz. It is part of the new product series and entirely new silicon codenamed “Phoenix”. It is in fact AMD first processor to feature Zen4 and RDNA3 architectures together.

What is important to note is that this is not the flagship CPU, there is still 7940HS SKU with 100-200 MHz higher clocks. Furthermore, the HS series are designed to operate within 35 to 45W base power; therefore they are designed for thinner gaming systems as opposed to HX SKUs for 55W+ TDPs.

According to the screenshot that has been shared, the CPU scores 16854 points in Cinebench R23 multi-core test. The single-core score is not shown, but it is relatively easy to decipher it from the ratio to around 1588 points. Here one should note that the single-core frequency on this particular sample is incorrect, for this reason the score was hidden. Should it reach advertised clocks, it might be around 1800 points, claims the leaker.

A quick comparison tell us that this 45W processors should compete with Intel 12th Gen CPUs such as Core i9-12900H. It is also 26% faster than last-gen Ryzen 7 6800H. As shown above, three are many processors now competing in this performance segment, with many more still to come within a few weeks.

AMD is set to launch its Ryzen 7000HS series in March, so there is still some time for AMD to fine-tune the drivers and for leakers to share more data.
