It has been a while, but AMD is back. The high-end AMD mobile processor series based on Zen2 is finally here.

Ryzen 4000H – AMD enters the high-end laptop market

AMD had announced Ryzen 4000H series codenamed “Renoir” at CES 2020 almost four months ago. Just two weeks ago company finally confirmed the full specs of the series.

The Ryzen 4000H lineup is divided into Ryzen 9, Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 5 series. The processors will be offered in six- and eight-core variants. AMD has also prepared “the HS sub-variants”, which are custom CPUs with TDP lowered to 35W. The default TDP for the series is 45W, the same as Intel’s high-end Core-H series.

The series feature a 7nm fabrication process and Zen2 architecture. The combination of the two provides a higher power efficiency over Ryzen 3000H series. This is especially visible for integrated Vega graphics, which are up to 59% more efficient per Compute Unit in synthetic benchmarks (according to AMD’s own benchmarks).

The Ryzen 4000H gaming laptops will be offered with Radeon RX 5500M-5700M discrete graphics, but also with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 (Max-Q) or GTX 1660 Ti. This collaboration with NVIDIA is certainly making a new chapter in the mobile gaming industry.
