AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE for China

ITHome reports AMD is preparing a new Radeon GPU, just not for every gamer.

The Radeon RX 7900 GRE (Golden Rabbit Edition) will be limited to the Chinese market. This is a successor to the Radeon RX 590 GME (Golden Mouse Edition) which was released as a special edition celebrating the year of the Rat/Mouse in 2020. This year’s edition will be a lot more interesting, though.

Speculation suggests that the RX 7900 GRE could be the much-discussed cut-down version of the Navi 31 GPU, as hinted by various leakers. This graphics card is expected to feature 16GB of GDDR6 memory on a 256-bit interface, with a reduced Compute Unit count in a range from 84 to 80 CU, claims the report. Essentially, it appears to be a Radeon RX 7900 without the XT with a smaller memory capacity than XT model.

Unfortunately, the report lacks specific information regarding the release date and other pertinent details. However, given the recent buzz surrounding a potential Navi 31 variant, it is possible that the GPU could be launched in the near future.

It is worth noting that there have been indications that this particular GPU may have a limited release restricted to the Chinese market. In fact, the name of the product itself suggests that it may not see a wider release. Nevertheless, gamers eagerly await AMD’s RX 7800/7700 series, which is anticipated to rival the performance of the GeForce RTX 4070/4060 models.
