According to a tweet by @momomo_us, AMD is poised to launch its new RX 7900 GRE graphics card this week. This date has been echoed by other sources, but it’s still uncertain whether it will be a market launch or a review embargo.

The RX 7900 GRE is reported to be a fresh desktop GPU, boasting 84 Compute Units. It bears a striking resemblance to the Radeon RX 7900 XT, with one notable exception: the graphics card is said to include 16GB VRAM across a 256-bit memory bus, a detail that has been confirmed by leaked packaging of the Sapphire NITRO+ model.

Upon closer inspection, significant changes can be observed in the PCB design compared to the RX 7900 XT model. The new design not only features a narrower profile but also sports fewer power connectors and a different SMD layout behind the GPU. Additionally, smaller GPU mounting leads to strong speculation that the RX 7900 GRE might be the first model to incorporate the rumored Navi 31/32 hybrid GPU. This hybrid GPU is expected to utilize a smaller package, akin to the size of the upcoming Navi 32 SKU.

It is reported by PCGamesHardware that the RX 7900 GRE features 300W TGP and same clocks as RX 7900 XT, so a boost clock up 2395 MHz and memory speed of 20 Gbps. This means that the card offers 640 GB/s of bandwidth. There will be no reference cards from AMD, as this launch will be promoted by board partners exclusively.

AMD has not yet officially confirmed the existence of this graphics card, and it’s possible that it will have a limited release initially, possibly targeting the Chinese market. Nevertheless, gamers would likely welcome the prospect of a more affordable RX 7900 XT model featuring 16GB of memory, which would be more than sufficient for high-fidelity gaming. The only question that remains is whether AMD intends to launch this graphics card on a global market.
